Displaying immense character, the Green & Whites staged a superb second half fightback at the Stores Field to secure a share of the spoils in an excellent encounter.

The hosts came into the game on the back of a huge away win on the season’s opening day and perhaps thought they were on course for a similar scenario after dominating the first forty minutes, having scored two tries within the opening six minutes.

But Tillery dug deep after the break and once livewire hooker Anton Wells had brought them within three points with a try and Darren Miles snuffed out what seemed a certain home try, the visitors looked the more probable winners. In the end, both sides had to settle for the draw as Haile’s penalty levelled matters with two minutes remaining.

The Green & Whites ran the ball from the off but soon found themselves in arrears as the play broke down and the Cuckoos moved the ball superbly for try for wing Dallimore.

Haile reduced the deficit with a penalty almost immediately, but from the restart, Dallimore was again sent through for a second unconverted try after more excellent handling by the Risca team.

The hosts were now in confident mood and only some determined defence kept them out as Haile managed to keep Tillery in contention with another superb penalty kick. But the pressure told with five minutes to the break as the Cuckoos scored a third tremendous try, this time through their other wing Biddiscombe, Anderson adding the conversion.

In the move, Dafydd Jones was injured, having to be replaced by Adam Collins, but Tillery’s fortunes improved just before the break as Haile slotted a third kick to narrow the gap at the interval to just eight points.

H-T: 17-9

After the break, the Tillery forwards upped their tempo whilst the scrum now started to put pressure on the home eight. Wells was at the forefront of several impressive charges and it was the hard working hooker who finished off a forward drive to score an unconverted try.

Risca reasserted their control for a while and it took a truly magnificent covering tackle in the corner by Darren Miles on impressive home scrum half, Morgan to deny them a bonus point touchdown.

After that, despite having Daniel Crandon dispatched to the sin bin, Tillery were the better side although Haile failed with two penalties to bring his team level. But with two minutes remaining, influential home lock, Crandon was sent to the bin as Risca infringed in front of the posts and Haile made it 17-all with the kick.

Risca pressed briefly with time running out but it was Tillery who had the best chance to sneak the win as they broke out of defence, Aled Penn just unable to steal his way through.
