The Green & Whites deservedly extended their winning
run of league games to six with a comprehensive, if
unspectacular, win over local rivals Nantyglo, who
ironically in view of the afternoon's events
snatched the match's only try in its last move.
Before that the Tillery eight had held the upper
hand throughout and Chris Stevens ensured that
dominance
was rewarded with four penalty kicks
adding to a Gareth Edwards' dropped goal.
A high tackle felled Chris Stevens at
full tilt on the visitors' 22 in the third minute, an
act which would probably ended with at least a yellow
card had it had not happened so early on. The youngster,
once he had recovered, slotted over the resultant kick
and doubled Tillery's early cushion when he repeated the
dose several minutes later.
Tillery continued to press but
without success as they met resolute Nantyglo defence
and, as the half progressed, the visitors themselves
started to put together some continuous phases of play.
They too were met with determined defence as Tillery's
players tackled to ensure their lines were not breached.
Just prior to the interval, 'Glo had
a chance to half the deficit but their penalty kick went
just wide.

A Chris Stevens' penalty
after the break
similarly faded wide as play was
firmly ensconced deep in Nantyglo territory. The
game now adopted a repeated pattern of wave after
wave of Tillery attacks.
To their credit, the visitors held their line intact
with often desperate defence which interrupted the
flow of the game as they suffered a string of
injuries.
The home pressure was relentless though and Stevens
added two more penalties to take his tally for the
season in cup and league games to 100 points with
Gareth Edwards, who had a good game, providing
another three points by dropping a goal.

Greg Lane wins good attacking lineout ball
With the game deep in injury time, Nantyglo at last
broke the Tillery stranglehold and a couple of kicks
took them deep into the Tillery half resulting in
Nolan Nicklin going over from close range for the
game's only touchdown.
