WELCOME - CROESO
Thank
you for visiting the Official Abertillery RFC website - the
virtual home of one of Wales' major rugby clubs, the Green
& Whites.
We are pleased to welcome rugby
supporters from Abertillery and all around the world.
Abertillery was the first Welsh club to establish an official
website back in 1995. The site is designed to be easy to
navigate.
If you travel
anywhere around the globe and say you’re from the
Abertillery area and it’s a good bet that they will mention
the word RUGBY. Abertillery's roots go back to 1883 and the
town and its rugby team have been synonymous with good reason.
The Green & Whites have been Welsh Champions twice, hosted
the All Blacks, Springboks, Wallabies and other international
sides at The Park, and provided players for Wales and the
British Lions, including
Haydn Morgan,
Allan Lewis and the late Alun Pask. The home of the Green
& Whites is Abertillery Park (cap. 15,000), widely
acknowledged as one of the most picturesque grounds in the
rugby world.
The
club runs sections from under-8s right through to the senior
side. If you are interested in obtaining fixtures with any of
the sections, please E-mail us (fixtures@abertillery-rfc.co.uk)
or contact the secretary of the appropriate section at the
club address (see above). We are also keen to attract overseas
players who wish to play rugby at a top league level in Wales,
and to hear from exiled townspeople and ex-players who may be
able to help support the team and club wherever possible.
If you have any
comments, questions, or suggestions, please e-mail us (webmaster@abertillery-rfc.co.uk)
or visit our message board.

PARK
Described by the great
BBC rugby commentator, Bill McLaren as one of the most
picturesque grounds in world rugby. In
1931, 30,000 people packed the venue to watch a
combined Abertillery-Cross Keys side narrowly lose
10-9 to Benny Osler's South Africa tourists in a
bruising battle. This was during Abertillery's golden
period when they twice won the Welsh Championship. The
All Blacks and the Wallabies have played twice at the
venue whilst on tour with Abertillery famously drawing
6-6 on Christmas Day 1908 with the Australians.
This view above looking
south towards the town of Abertillery shows the new
grandstand on the eastern side with team dressing
rooms, medical rooms, sponsors' lounge and great
uninterrupted views for all 800 seated spectators.
